xThe Zisha pot is a hand-made clay craft unique to the Han Chinese, but now also made in large quantities by machine. The raw material used in its production is Zisha clay, which originated in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, and is also known as Yixing Zisha pot. It is a collectible "antique" in the auction market, and the works of famous masters are often hard to find, as the saying goes, "What jewels on earth are enough to take, but Yixing Zisha is the most important to get." [4]
The Yixing Zisha pot is the most famous, the Yixing Zisha pot does not take away the true fragrance of tea, and no cooked soup gas, can maintain the colour, fragrance and taste of tea for a longer period of time. It is also popular because of its simple and chic shape and its excellent temperament, which can change to an ancient jade colour when soaked in tea and rubbed by hand. Purple clay is indeed a unique raw material in Yixing, as it has all the necessary chemical and mineral composition for pottery making. Microscopic observation reveals that the main minerals in purple clay are quartz, clay, mica and hematite. The reasonable chemical, mineral and granular composition of the clay makes it a good plasticity, high strength and low drying shrinkage. The fineness of the clay should be 60 mesh sieve.
If the clay is too coarse, it will take too much effort to produce; if the clay is too fine, it will stick to the hands and cause wrinkles on the surface of the billet, as well as causing drying and shrinkage. Due to the presence of the skin layer, the temperature range of the product is extended, whether at the upper or lower limit of the normal firing temperature, the skin layer is easily sintered, while the inner wall of the pot can still form air holes. Therefore, the finishing process of forming has the effect of organically linking the clay, forming and firing together, giving the purple sand a glossy surface, lustrous though not glazed, and not leaking though having a certain porosity.
